Questions to Ask When Shopping For A LASIK Eye Surgeon

If you are considering correcting your vision with LASIK vision correction, it is important that you select the right LASIK surgeon to perform your procedure. Your LASIK surgeon can mean the difference between satisfactory and unsatisfactory results.

When you are looking for a LASIK surgeon to perform your laser vision correction procedure, one of the best things you can do is schedule an initial consultation, or initial refractive evaluation.

During your initial meeting with your potential LASIK surgeon, you will be ask them all the questions you need in order to find out if they are the right surgeon for you. Some of the questions you should ask any LASIK surgeon you consider include:

How long have you been performing LASIK procedures?
Make sure your LASIK surgeon has years of experience performing laser vision correction.

How many LASIK procedures have you performed?
Complications are a risk of any surgery, you should never trust a LASIK surgeon that claims to never have complications.

How many of your patients have had complications arise after their LASIK procedure?

What professional organizations or associations are you a member of?
Make sure your LASIK surgeon is a member of a few different associations and organizations, many associations require both experience and additional training to be a member.

If complications do arise, how will you handle them?
Your LASIK surgeon should make every effort to improve your vision, even if complications arise.

What percentage of your patients achieve 20/40 vision? 20/20?
The standard percentage of patients that achieve 20/20 vision is about 50%.

Is LASIK the right procedure for me?
There are a variety of different laser vision correction procedures and other refractive error corrective procedures that you may be better suited for.
