What are ReSTOR® Intra Ocular Lenses?
Will I need glasses after receiving my ReSTOR® IOLs?
Will I need to have cataract surgery again after my ReSTOR® IOL procedure??
How long is the recovery period after the ReSTOR® IOL procedure?

Q: What are ReSTOR® Intra Ocular Lenses?
A: ReSTOR® Intra Ocular Lenses (IOLs) are different than many other IOLs because they allow you to focus on more objects that are at multiple distances. Unlike many monofocal IOLs in the past, ReSTOR® IOLs provide a much wider range of vision, allowing people to see with an ability that is much closer to the eye's natural lens.

For the most part, people in good overall health that are suffering from cataracts in their eye's natural lens are good candidates for ReSTOR® IOLs. The best way to determine if ReSTOR® IOLs are right for you, is to schedule an initial consultation with an experienced ophthalmologist from BVA.

Q: Will I need glasses after receiving my ReSTOR® IOLs?
A: After receiving ReSTOR® IOLs, most patients never need to wear their prescription glasses or contacts again. The reason for this is because the ReSTOR IOL allows cataract surgery patients to focus on objects at multiple distances. With the ReSTOR® IOL, wearers can see objects at near, intermediate, and far distances.

Q: Will I need to have cataract surgery again after my ReSTOR® IOL procedure?
A: When you undergo cataract surgery, your eyes natural lens, and the cataracts that have developed on it, are removed. After being removed, the natural lens is replaced with the ReSTOR® IOL. The ReSTOR® IOL is resistant to cataracts developing on the implant, and as a result, you will never need to undergo cataract surgery again. If the ReSTOR® IOL becomes cloudy a few months after being implanted, your ophthalmologist can remove the cloudy cells in a non-invasive, painless laser procedure.

Q: How long is the recovery period after the ReSTOR® IOL procedure?
A: After cataract surgery, you will need two to three days to rest and recover before returning to most activities. After a few days, you will be able to return to most normal activities, such as driving and working, but your eye may be sensitive to touch and light. For a few weeks, you should avoid activities that may result in getting hit in the eye, and you should avoid allowing any substances touch your eye, such as make up or shampoo. During your initial consultation, your ophthalmologist will be able to tell you more about the directions you should follow after cataract surgery.

If you have any unanswered questions that you would like to speak with an experienced ophthalmologist about, contact BVA to schedule your screening.
