Ophthalmologist returns home, opens
Chickasha clinic
Dr. Joshua Powell opened
his ophthalmology practice in the new BVA Advanced
Eye Care Norman office, serving patients through
clinics in Lindsay and in his hometown of Chickasha.
Dr. Powell returns to
Oklahoma after extensive study at the prestigious
Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, Mich. He was born
and raised in Chickasha and is the son of Kenny and
Sherron Powell. Dr. Powell recently performed the
first cataract surgery ever at the Lindsay Municipal
Hospital.
In Chickasha, Dr. Powell’s clinic is open twice a
month and by appointment only. It is located in the
Five Oaks Medical Group building, adjacent to the
Grady Memorial Hospital.
He completed his residency
at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University,
where the Kresge Eye Institute is located. While
there, he served as chief resident and won the
Lawrence Stocker Award for Compassionate Medicine.
He interned at the
University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and
received the William K. Warren Best Intern Award. He
is a graduate of OU Health Sciences Center and his
undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas
at Dallas.
